Dancing to Success: An Exclusive Cover Interview with The Quickstyle

Dance is a global expression and it transcends borders. (Norske Talenter winner) Quick Style is instrumentalising their urban dance style and multifariously talented individual artists to carve a new path for upcoming talents and start conversations around true globalisation. Trust them to sweep you off your feet with their synergy and style. To watch them groove and vibe is a treat that leaves you with zeal. The troupe underlines the beauty in diversity and the power of unison through their cultural integrations, movements, and expressions. Quick Style Studio is a platform that explores various dance styles & identities across culture and is blending them all to truly realise the art form for the upcoming artists.

They are reshaping the way we perceive Dance as an art form. We caught up with this enigmatic group while they tour India for a fun interview.

  1. Your first viral dance video ‘Kala Chashma’ broke the internet. Was it your friend’s/relatives wedding or was it a professional performance?
It was actually Suleman’s wedding, who is one of the founders of Quick Style. So yes it was our brothers wedding.

  2. When and where did you all meet each other? How was The Quick Style group birthed?
Nasir: I met Suleman and Bilal in school when we were kids. We found a lot of mutual interests and after that we have been together for over 20 years now and counting.

  3. You all enjoy a great amount of popularity within celebrity circles. Name one celebrity you’d like to collaborate with and someone who’s on your radar?
It is impossible to just choose one. We believe that there are so many different qualities and memories attached to everyone and we would like to meet everyone.

  4. This diverse unison is so powerful and inspirational. But does it ever get difficult to work with multiple talents?
Everyone in the crew has actually been our students since they were kids so we have a very special connection. We have yet to experience a difficulty in the way we work.

  5. How do you pick your songs? And how do you choreograph with so many minds at play, who’s the boss?
Bilal smiling: Suleman is called the General; I think that should explain it all.

  6. What is the takeaway of your performances for the audience? What does Quickstyle really stand for?
Quick Style stands for so many things, but a few things on top of our mind are: love, fun, equality,
diversity and respect. We believe that the world is one family!

  7. What is your dream destination to perform at?
Marine Drive; for a free to enter performance where everyone can enjoy dancing with us.

  8. What are your upcoming projects?
We have a lot of fun projects coming up. For instance we are having a Europe Tour in May where we will visit 20 big cities in Europe and UK within 1 month.

  9. What is each ones signature style or move?
More than signature move, it starts with Individuals characters and then builds their style of movements. For example Bilal is direct and loves to connect, so his style becomes a lot of hand movements like he’s talking and connecting. Like that it goes for each one of the member. Oskar is very soft and kind! So he’s movement becomes like he’s personality. William has a lot of energy and strength, so he’s movements always goes explosive compared to the other members. It goes like this. 🙂

  10. How do you maintain everyone’s individual identity yet marry all together for the performances?
In our earlier days, we used to compete and practice in details. Our goal was to be synchronized. Today we are not focusing so much on that rather it has become a part of our identity. Now we focus more on what is the feeling behind the movement? So whatever we create we make sure everyone understands what is the feeling of that movement, and once everyone get that feel and understanding correct we become one!

  11. Let’s play a fun game, name the person “Who’s most likely to …”

    Marry next?
    Nasir, Kunal and Yasin.

Throw a fit middle of the rehearsals?
    Suleman and Bilal.

    Never sync with the group?
    Usually everyone is in sync.

    Late for the practice?
    Bilal and William.

    Play a Prank?
    Yasin.

    Crack Lame Jokes?
    Oskar.

    Fashion police everyone?
    David Vu and Suleman.

    Make motivational speeches?
    Bilal, Nasir and Suleman.

    Eat from other plates?
    Egil.

    Dance till they drop?
    Suleman.
