Sonali Singh

Sonali Singh is an Avid Traveller, an artist, a friend and manager to one of India’s biggest talents Daljit Dosanj. FACE’s Managing Editor Neha Sachar Mittal caught up with her to talk about her work and being a woman of today.

1. Apart from representing some very successful artists, we believe you yourself are into performing arts. Please tell our readers more about yourself?

In my 13 years of career span in the Film & Music world, I have got the opportunity to work with some really amazing artists and big names, but as far as representation is concerned, I am with only one artist, i.e., Diljit Dosanjh, exclusively, nobody else.

I am yet to explore what genre of art this is called because the love for paintings has recently been developed, and I am still evolving with each one of my art pieces. It flows through me as any other creative process does. I address my pieces as souvenirs from the journey within.

2.You have a beautiful working relationship with Dikhit Dosanj… can you tell our readers how it started?

I used to work with Tseries as A&R and met Diljit on one of our video shoots almost 13 years ago. We became friends from there, and our professional relationship has grown gradually over the period. I genuinely feel honoured to be with such a fantastic soul. I never aspired to be a business manager of any talent; if it wouldn’t have been him, I would probably be doing something else.

3.March celebrates Women all over the globe. Why do you think we need a day or a month to celebrate women? And is it enough?

Haha! Although this question is meant for some intellectual kind of people.. I am yet to learn and have enough wisdom to articulate well what I should say.

Personally, I feel women, in general, are a bundle of unconditional love. They are delicate ‘handle with care’ kind yet the strongest. Women’s day or month is undoubtedly a beautiful way to remind us to dedicate our attention towards celebrating that strength. And No amount of celebration & pampering is enough for the ladies we love & care for.

4.Today there is a lot of pressure on women to look a certain way. Social media has also set unreal standards with all the filters. You on the other hand took to Instagram to talk about your body issues. What prompted you to make this bold move?

Yes, social media and society put a lot of pressure on women to appear a specific way. If you think about it, not only fat people but also thin women are judged for being too skinny. I believe there is always someone who wants to tell you how you look. I don’t think filters are harmful, but utilizing them to replace reality is. It was an attempt to remind myself, and perhaps someone else who feels the same way, that you must embrace yourself, flaws and all, and love yourself just as you are. It was just a way to Face my fears & let go of the burden of unreal expectations from myself.

5.Where do you see yourself 5 years from now?

I don’t even try to foresee what and where I would be tomorrow; hence thinking about five years is out of the question. I live by the day.
