The Evolution of Julia Liros – The Artist & The Visionary
Julia, your journey in the music industry has been remarkable. What initially drew you to music, and when did you realize it was your true calling?
“My career develops on two fronts: on stage and in front of the camera, I am Julia Liros, singer and actress; behind the camera, I am Ludovica Lirosi, director, screenwriter, and producer. My first love was cinema. At the age of 12, I started acting in theater in Rome, and at 17, I wrote, directed, and performed my first theatrical work. I then studied at the New York Film Academy and the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia.
In 2015, I wrote, directed, and produced the documentary Too Much Stress from My Heart, distributed on Netflix USA, Australia, the UK, and New Zealand, represented by RAI COM, and winner of numerous awards, including Best Foreign Film at the American Movie Awards. In 2016, I founded LULIFILM to develop innovative projects. In 2025, Millennialswill be released, a series I wrote, directed, and produced, which explores the relationships of the Millennial generation with a mix of irony and emotional depth. With over 60 actors, it will be distributed by Mediterráneo Mediaset España Group and RAI COM.
Classical dance, which I have practiced since childhood, has always connected me to music—I started at the age of 6. My first musical composition came at 18 when I composed a theme song for a festival due to an imminent deadline, finding myself writing out of necessity. That was when I realized that music could be a natural extension of my narrative language.”
Your sound is both unique and captivating. How would you define your musical identity, and what makes it stand out in today’s industry?
“My music is constantly evolving. I started with songs in foreign languages despite being Italian, creating Latin pop and reggaeton tracks in English, Spanish, and Portuguese, with energetic and rhythmic sounds. However, I feel the need to explore new directions: I am now moving toward a more pop sound, which I feel represents me more deeply. What makes my music recognizable is the Latin influence that permeates every one of my songs. Even in my more pop tracks, I always try to maintain that rhythmic and passionate essence.”
The entertainment industry is constantly evolving. How have you adapted and reinvented yourself over the years?
“I have constantly reinvented myself. I keep myself updated, I stay informed, and I never stop. I am used to difficulties and challenges, which I see as opportunities for growth. My journey has been built on sacrifice, resilience, and determination. I have faced closed doors, obstacles, and difficult moments, but all of this has allowed me to grow. Now more than ever, I believe in the importance of mental well-being, especially for the new generations. Life is full of ups and downs, but what matters is the ability to get back up.”
2. Music, Passion & Creative Process
Your songs have an undeniable emotional depth. What inspires your songwriting, and do you have a particular process when crafting a new track?
“Every one of my songs is born from an emotion, a lived experience, or a story that moves me. Just like in cinema, I use music to express emotions, inner conflicts, and moments of personal growth. Sometimes I start with a vocal melody, other times with lyrics or a visual idea. Some songs are light and carefree, while others dig deeper. I try to maintain a balance between entertainment and emotional depth.”
If you had to describe your music in three words, what would they be?
- Evolving – Always transforming, in line with my personal and artistic growth.
- Engaging – Blending rhythm and emotion to create an intense experience.
- Authentic – Conveying real emotions, without filters.
3. Your Upcoming Single – A Musical Statement
Your latest single is set to release on April 10. What is the story behind this track, and what can fans expect?
“Baby is an original track written for Millennials, the new series produced by LULIFILM. It was born from the desire to portray love beyond stereotypes, exploring its most authentic nuances: imperfections, vulnerabilities, and personal growth. Love is often idealized, but reality is different. Baby challenges this narrative and celebrates love in its truth, with all its contradictions.”
4. Exploring the World of Direction – No State
You are currently working on No State, a new film in pre-production. Can you tell us a bit about your role and what drew you to this project?
“No State is a project I deeply care about. It is a film I wrote, representing an unprecedented narrative and visual challenge for me as a director. It is a thriller with elements of adventure and fantasy, exploring universal themes such as freedom, resilience, and the encounter between different cultures. I chose to tell this story because I feel the need to create extraordinary worlds while staying connected to authentic emotions. Currently, No State is in pre-production—it’s a true challenge, an important film. It will take the audience into a new dimension, rich in tension and magic.”
No State is being filmed in India. How does this cultural and cinematic shift influence the storytelling?
“Shooting in India is not just a narrative choice but also an artistic and human experience that I can’t wait to live. The culture, colors, energy, and intertwined stories of this country will give the film a unique identity. India is an integral part of the story of No State, which takes place between Europe and Asia. The film follows the journey of a group of characters from different cultures who find themselves in an otherworldly realm where every choice can change destiny. Filming in India will add authenticity to the story, making it even more intense and engaging.”
5. Inspirations & Artistic Influences
Every artist has role models. Who are some of the biggest influences in your career, both musically and in film?
“In music, I have always been inspired by artists like Rihanna, Beyoncé, Jennifer Lopez, Shakira, Karol G—each different but incredible for their strength, perseverance, professionalism, talent, and discipline in their work. They are complete artists.
In cinema, I admire many directors, among them Pedro Almodóvar. I love his visual universe, the way he explores human complexity through his stories, and his ability to bring intense, profound, and unconventional characters to the screen. His bold style and narrative choices have always fascinated me.”
6. Beyond the Spotlight – The Personal Side of Julia Liros
What are some challenges you have faced in your career, and how have they shaped you as an artist?
“It hasn’t been an easy journey, but every challenge has shaped me into the artist I am today. The most important lesson I have learned is to keep believing in myself, no matter what obstacles arise.
